A specialist school based in Caerphilly are seeking a general Teacher to cover a range of subjects at KS3/KS4. The school specialises in educating young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The provision opened in 2022 as a result of an initiative to provide locally based, easily accessible, high quality learning experiences within a small, focused, nurturing environment to secondary school aged children expressing behaviours that are challenging or inappropriate in a community setting. The school is staffed with a highly skilled and qualified team of professionals and resourced to offer a wide range of educational, sporting and therapeutic resources for pupils aged 11-17 years who have complex needs.

Pupils

Many of the boys and girls who attend the school have additional learning needs such as BESD, ADHD, ODD, are returning to an educational setting after periods without formal education or require a smaller, nurturing environment in which to develop their confidence in learning. They are aged 11-17 years.

The Provision

The School is a portfolio pupil referral unit (PRU) and was established in 2022. The PRU serves pupils with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in the foundation phase and at key stages 3 and 4.  The PRU also provides education for pupils who require home tuition due to their medical needs and manages the education other than at school placements in the local college and other education providers.

The school are very welcoming to new Teachers. It is a PRU school – roughly 30  pupils enrolled across all sites or on home tuition, that has made a significant improvement in teaching and leadership.

There is an extremely supportive senior leadership team throughout school with a clear vision towards achieving better.

Your new role

Joining a hard working team, you will be responsible for teaching a range of subjects KS3 & KS4 and work as a general teacher cover. The role is to commence in January and will operate on a temporary long term basis until February half term as a minimum.

As the role is long term, you will be required to plan and prepare all lessons whilst differentiating in pupil ability. You will also be required to mark and assess all work ensuring that pupils are progressing in line with their target grades.

What you’ll need to succeed

To be successful in securing this position, it is essential that you hold a teaching qualification such as QTS, QTLS, FE or PGCE and have experience of teaching to KS3/KS4.

You must be able to commence the role immediately and be able to commit to the full duration of the assignment.
