Job Overview:
- We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistants with a can-do attitude to work alongside the class team promoting a love of learning for pupils and to enable them to make progress towards positive academic and EHCP outcomes.
- Having experience in education would be highly advantageous but we also recognise experience of other similar environments.
- You would be responsible for working with SEND pupil’s in small groups and 1:1 sessions.
- This a full-time temp to permanent role (term-time) working in a SEND School based in Alvaston, Derby working with complex needs of children and challenging behaviour in all key stages.
Responsibilities:
- To ensure that a pupil’s entitlement to a high standard of teaching and learning and communication is achieved in association with teachers and therapists.
- Support the class teacher prepare for lessons including displays and resources.
- Contribute to the development of class planning and pupil targets.
- Assist with a range of education activities designed to meet the needs of the individual or small group which may include direct teaching/instructing overseen by a teacher.
- Monitor and evaluate children’s completion of work.
- Support progress to EHCP outcomes.
- To manage and support all students with regulating and reducing challenging behaviour, including appropriate use of physical intervention (where trained) in line with the school policy and the individual’s Positive Behaviour Support Plan.
- Ensure all aspects of the pupil’s education day is planned, assessed and reviewed holistically and individual needs are met.
- Undertake activities with either individuals or small groups of children in order to facilitate their physical, emotional and educational development which may include swimming, outdoor activities, animals and community access.
- Assist whenever necessary with personal hygiene, advice and guidance to pupils.
- Promote independence to individuals.
- Balancing at all times the pupil’s actual age with their ability age.
- Promote and reinforce the pupil’s self-esteem and encourage the child to maximise their achievement and development.
- Establish positive relationships with the children and parents/carers.
- Assist in supervising pupils during lunch as required
- Follow child protection and safeguarding procedures as required and at all times.
Requirements:
- You must have a Teaching Assistant Qualification or relevant experience working with children and young people who have SEN needs such as ADHD, Autism and learning disabilities.
- Experience working with children with additional learning needs, special educational needs or disabilities.
- You must have the patience to provide 1:1 support to children with SEN needs.
- Have high expectations of pupils’ achievements and a commitment to excellent standards.
- Work well as part of a team and as an individual.
- Be enthusiastic, energetic and committed to making learning exciting.
- Have excellent communication skills with children and adults.
- Demonstrate experience of developing effective resources for young people with additional needs.
- Demonstrate effective record keeping with an awareness of the Data Protection Act and sharing information protocols.
- Be committed to adhering to the organisation’s policies, procedures and practices
- Comply with necessary Enhanced DBS and Social Media checks.
