Now Education are looking for enthusiastic Residential Support Workers to work in a SEND School in Burton-On-Trent. You will support young people to learn practical life skills and achieve their personal goals. Every day is different and you will provide young people with excellent care as well as support them with a wide range of learning, development and social activities. You will work with children that have challenging and often complex needs, and exhibit challenging behaviour.
Requirements:
- A current First Aid / Food Hygiene or Fire Safety Certificate.
- NVQ2 in Care or equivalent.
- Previous experience within a residential setting supporting young children/adults.
- Knowledge and understanding of what a Person-Centred Approach means to residents.
- Experience of severe learning difficulties and/or challenging behaviour.
- Knowledge of the importance of risk assessments.
- Experience in the personal care and hygiene of another person.
- Previous experience of working with young or vulnerable people.
- The ability to work under pressure in challenging circumstances.
- An understanding and commitment to safeguarding vulnerable adults.
- A good standard of written and verbal communication.
- A valid current driving licence.
- To have a commitment to and an understanding of the care of those with severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.
- Willing and able to work as part of a shift pattern that includes some weekends, evenings and bank holidays.
- You must be able to apply for an Enhanced DBS or have a DBS certificate on the update service.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- To provide a Person-Centred Approach in supporting all Residents in reaching their personal goals and achievements.
- To ensure Residents lead active and full lives and enabling and facilitating on and off-site activities at all appropriate times.
- You will be allocated to a tutor group.
- Liaise with Teachers, other STLAs, Parents and carers of pupils, SLT, pastoral and careers lead, phonics assistant, midday learning support assistant.
- To work with other team members, agencies and parents/carers in a supportive and professional manner to best meet the needs of individual pupils.
- Support the delivery of the curriculum to ensure that pupils realise their full potential both socially and academically.
- Provide opportunities for small group work, and individual support in addressing targets identified in ILPs and EHCP’s.
- Undertake baseline testing and assessment of new pupils.
- Contribute to pupil ILPs and Annual Reviews for EHCP pupils.
- Support small groups and individual pupils with literacy, numeracy and other areas of the curriculum.
- Be allocated to a tutor group and contribute to the delivery of the tutor time programme or be a keyworker for identified pupils.
- Diffuse and divert obstructive behaviour and assist all staff in maintaining agreed acceptable standards of pupil behaviour.
- Contribute to the production of site displays of pupil work.
- Ensure that teachers have resources required for their lessons to function efficiently and swiftly.
- Promote and reinforce pupils’ self-esteem, independence and participation within the school and wider community.
- Be sensitive to the issues surrounding pupils who may exhibit challenging behaviour, are disaffected, have learning difficulties and complex needs.
- To drive company vehicles as long as the required criteria is met.
