Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Now Education are working in partnership with a pupil referral unit in Manchester who require a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to work on a long term and full time basis, starting in January 2024.

The staff at the PRU are seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their staff team.

As an HLTA, you will play a crucial role in supporting the teaching and learning of students who may face various educational and behavioural challenges.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with young people who have a range of Special Educational Needs such as: Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Complex and Challenging Behaviour.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role which involves working with young people who may be classed as disengaged, disaffected or hard to reach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom Support: Provide high-quality classroom support to teachers, addressing the diverse needs of students.
  • Small Group Interventions: Conduct targeted interventions with small groups to reinforce learning and address individual needs.
  • Behaviour Management: Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive learning environment by implementing effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Curriculum Support: Support the delivery of the curriculum, adapting materials to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Assist in the assessment and feedback process, providing valuable insights into student progress.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, other support staff, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • HLTA Status: Hold, or be working towards, HLTA status or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • Experience: Demonstrate experience working with students with diverse needs in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge: Possess a good understanding of current educational practices and strategies for supporting students with behavioural challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to the changing needs of the PRU environment.
