Support Worker (3 days on 3 days off)

Now Education are looking for an enthusiastic Support Worker to work in a SEND School in Burton-On-Trent. You will provide support for children and young adults in all aspects of care, education and health.

Every day is different and you will provide young people with excellent care as well as support them with a wide range of learning, development and social activities. You will work with children that have complex needs and exhibit challenging behaviour.

Requirements:

  • English and Maths BTEC Level 2/GCSE/equivalent.
  • Level 2 or 3 Qualification in Care or Children & Young People or equivalent.
  • Willingness to undertake accredited courses and mandatory training within the time set.
  • Previous experience within a SEN setting supporting young children.
  • Experience of severe learning difficulties and/or challenging behaviour.
  • Knowledge of the importance of risk assessments.
  • Experience in the personal care and hygiene of another person.
  • Previous experience of working with young or vulnerable people.
  • The ability to work under pressure in challenging circumstances.
  • An understanding and commitment to safeguarding vulnerable children.
  • A good standard of written and verbal communication.
  • Have a commitment to and an understanding of the care of those with severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviours.
  • Willing and able to work as part of a shift pattern that includes some weekends, evenings and bank holidays (3 days on 3days off rota pattern working 07:15am – 22:00pm).
  • A valid current driving licence.
  • You must be able to apply for an Enhanced DBS or have a DBS certificate on the update service.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Enable children and young people to find a way of life which suits them, achieve the maximum potential level of independence and sense of physical and emotional well- being.
  • Contribute towards 1:1 Supervision and Performance Management Meetings in order to promote good practice and personal and professional development.
  • 1:1 support in the education setting.
  • Play an active part as a key worker.
  • Support the young person in areas of personal hygiene and intimate care procedures.
  • Implement care in accordance with Quality Standards.
  • Promote independence and choice to individuals and advocate on behalf of young people.
  • Ensure all aspects of the young people’s life is planned assessed and reviewed holistically and individual needs are met.
  • Ensure that the young person’s care plan and placement plan is up to date.
  • Ensure that the young person’s environment is clean, personalised and regularly reviewed for decoration.
  • Complete any domestic duties as required.
  • Meet leisure and social needs by providing purposeful activities and organised time for play; community access and independent time (these may require a basic level of fitness e.g. swimming/bike riding etc).
  • Participate in working rotas as required and to undertake sleeping duties.
  • Work flexibly and cooperatively as part of the student support system.
  • Adhere to the teacher and therapy guidance and child protection procedures as required and at all times.
  • Drive Company vehicles if you meet the criteria
  • Undertake other duties as reasonably expected of a Residential Support Worker.
  • To take responsibility for self-development through the performance review process and undertake any relevant training as offered by the Head Teacher, in conjunction with the training and development plans.
