SEN Teacher, English Subject Specialist – Bourne
Starting as soon as possible or January 2026
40 weeks per year, paid holiday
35 hours per week 8.30am till 4pm
Job Purpose:
To plan, deliver, and evaluate academic, vocational, and support programmes for students, ensuring high- quality learning experiences that promote the academic, emotional, and social development of every learner.
The role involves creating a safe, stimulating, and therapeutic environment guided by the PACE model to foster student success in school and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
– Plan and teach academic and vocational subjects tailored to individual and group needs
– Lead classroom instruction and create differentiated lesson plans to support varying abilities
– Provide targeted support for students with complex needs, including behaviour and emotional development
– Implement behaviour management strategies, including physical intervention when necessary, aligned with
– school policy and training
– Ensure student safeguarding and uphold all child protection protocols
– Regularly assess student progress and update Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
– Contribute to the development and review of EHCPs and participate in annual reviews
– Promote and support literacy, numeracy, and IT skill development
– Liaise with support staff, therapists, and care teams to deliver a holistic approach to student education
– Maintain accurate records, daily logs, and student reports
– Foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues
– Ensure a clean, safe, and supportive learning environment
– Engage in ongoing professional development and training as required
Person Specification:
– Qualifications & Training
– Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (Essential)
– Relevant subject degree or equivalent (Essential)
– Training in Safeguarding, Behaviour Management, and First Aid (Desirable)
– Additional qualifications in special needs education, sport, music, or health (Desirable)
Knowledge & Experience:
– Experience teaching students with special educational needs and challenging behaviours (Essential)
– Strong understanding of safeguarding practices and SEND frameworks (Essential)
– Knowledge of developmental and therapeutic strategies for young people (Desirable)
Skills & Abilities:
– Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
– Strong written and verbal communication
– Competent in using ICT for teaching and administration
– Effective planner and organiser with ability to manage time independently
– Skilled in collaborative working and student mentoring
– High emotional intelligence and adaptability in a dynamic environment
