Now Education are delighted to be working in partnership with Wirral Met College who require a Progress Coach to work on a part time basis starting asap. The role is 24 hours a week, spread across 3 days working with groups of students in a pastoral capacity. This is a temporary position which is initially required until October half term but it is very likely that it will be extended up until Christmas and continue for the rest of the academic year. There is a strong opportunity for a permanent position for the right candidate.
The Progress Coach will support identified students to develop their knowledge, skills and behaviours to succeed and progress onto their intended destination.
The role will also include training groups of students with a focus on professional standards for assigned curriculum areas as part of weekly tutorial sessions, delivery of a cross-college curriculum related to employability skills, attendance checking, organising weekly meetings and carrying out 1:1 progress reviews with students, and setting individual targets aligned to professional standards and behaviours.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to:
Work closely with Attendance Officers to monitor and follow up absences with parent/guardian and external agencies where applicable
- Develop and deliver high quality tutorial sessions in line with the College Quality Framework.
- Deliver high quality, pre-planned employability sessions
- Develop an individual learning plan with a focus on improving the identified gaps in students’ knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
- Work closely with staff and students to implement appropriate interventions to ensure expected employability standards and targets are met.
- Set and review SMART targets with individual students to ensure progress against defined skills, knowledge and behaviours.
- Track, monitor and support any students who are not meeting college performance standards, e.g. target attendance to all timetabled lessons, participation with English and/or maths, behaviour and academic performance.
- Ensure students are up to date with their work and liaise with the tutors to identify gaps and assist in ensuring the student can meet targets.
- Liaise with parents/guardians to support all students.
The ideal candidate will have Educational Qualifications to at least level 3 and have a GCSE in Maths or English at Grade C or above. Experience in coaching/mentoring young people aged 16-18 would also be an advantage, although not essential. You will be skilled at developing positive and proactive relationships with young people whilst reinforcing the high expectations that the college have.
