Job Overview:
- We are seeking an experienced Primary Teaching Assistant to join our team in supporting students who have been identified as being at risk of exclusion, or who have already been permanently excluded from mainstream education.
- This a full-time temp to permanent role working with primary aged children in an Alternative Provision based in High Peak, working with complex needs of children and challenging behaviour.
Requirements:
- Must be an experienced Teaching Assistant from a primary background
- Must know the primary curriculum
- Must have experience of working with challenging pupils
- Must have very high resilience
- As travelling between sites is a requirement for this role, any potential candidates must drive and have or be open to getting car business insurance.
Duties & Skills:
- Be able to work with small groups of pupils, 1:1 and off site (this may be in pupils’ homes or other off-site locations)
- At times you may need to support the secondary pupils (team of 6 staff with 2 classrooms)
- Work closely with challenging individuals to provide tailored care and support
- Develop and implement educational programmes to meet the specific needs of each individual
- Experience working with children particularly those with SEND and challenging behaviour
- Special education background or relevant qualifications
- Ability to educate and engage individuals with autism effectively
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with families and other professionals
- Compassionate and patient approach to supporting individuals
- Knowledge of strategies for educating and supporting children on the autism spectrum Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively engage with students and colleagues
- Ability to educate and inspire children through creative teaching methods
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children
- Organisational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively within the classroom setting
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to the diverse needs of students
- Communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and other professionals involved in the care of individuals
- Create a safe and nurturing environment for children
- Monitor progress and adjust strategies as needed to ensure optimal development
- Assist teachers in the planning and implementation of educational activities tailored to individual student needs
- Support children in their learning processes, helping them to understand concepts and complete tasks
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages participation from all students
- Provide general classroom support
