1:1 Teaching Assistant

Now Education are looking for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to work with a Year 3 boy on a 1:1 basis. It is a long-term role for a primary school in St Ann’s/Sneinton Nottingham. You will work in a welcoming community and a highly motivated, professional staff team that are driven towards continuously raising standards. Requirements:

  • Have patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
  • Have excellent behaviour management.
  • Have the ability to work with a wide range of children with complex additional needs.
  • Be confident and have a positive approach that engages students in their learning.
  • You must have a Teaching Assistant qualification or six months plus of relevant experience.
  • You must have the patience to provide 1 to 1 support to a Year 3 boy with SEN needs.
  • Be creative in your approach to learning and delivering the curriculum.
  • Have high expectations of pupils’ achievements and a commitment to excellent standards.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Be enthusiastic, energetic and committed to making learning exciting.
  • Have excellent communication skills with children and adults.
  • You must be able to apply for an Enhanced DBS or have a DBS certificate on the update service.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver assigned programmes of teaching and learning activities to an individual pupil modifying and adapting activities as necessary under the overall direction and supervision of a teacher.
  • Assess, record and report on development, progress and attainment.
  • To work with a named child, as directed by the class teacher and/or SENCo, to support subjects and learning across the whole curriculum.
  • Establish a supportive, caring and secure relationship with the child, promoting respect, self esteem and a positive, inclusive whole school ethos.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of the specific academic, physical and emotional/behavioural/medical needs of the child and respond to them effectively.
  • Assist the class teacher/SENCo with the planning, development and delivery of suitable programmes of work for the pupil.
  • Support class teachers to design, create and produce learning activities, materials and resources to support aspects of the curriculum or particular learning outcomes, and to assist and support the child in using them.
  • Help, support and motivate the child, clarifying instructions, encouraging independent learning and behaviour and enabling learning targets and outcomes to be achieved.
  • Contribute to monitoring and recording pupil progress, maintaining records and providing relevant feedback to teachers.
  • Provide welfare support to the child, including administering First Aid (dependent on training) and attending to personal hygiene and identified medical needs as required.
  • Assist with general school duties which may include: setting up classrooms, preparing resources and displays and tidying and clearing away, supervision of children during playtimes and supervision of children entering and leaving school premises.

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and strategies is a plus.
  • Ability to work well with a team and follow directions from the lead teacher.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help educate and support children.
  • Ability to provide care for toddlers if required.
